There is a typewritten notation on the back of the photo; it reads: "Looking towards center of Oakland from a point on Adams Point, now Grand Ave., probably in the early [18]90's" The focus of the photo is a large two-storey Victorian house, with a one-storey-high, tower. It is situated on a knoll, and is surrounded by trees, many of which are sculpted. It has a long curving driveway which leads from the house into a graded dirt road that has a sharp bend in it. Vacant land is on the opposite side of the road. At the top of the driveway, there is a structure which may be a hot house. At the center of the photo there is an elevated water tank on a closed-in base.
