The Tribune clipping, dated January 17, 1960, attached to the back of thephoto reads " HIHWAY MIRACLE -- Here is a typical section of U.S. Highway 40 [later designated Interstate 80] that has been streamlined for Olympic traffic. Picture looks east from a point near Hampshire Rocks resort area. A two-
lane section of highway has been reconstructed into a freeway in the Sierra wilderness. Old highway extends up left side of picture." A notation on the back adds the information that the view looks east bear Hampshire Rocks resort ....near Raibow Tavern [near Rainbow Bend JM 10/24/2000] Both sides of
new 40 have been plowed; old 40 has not.
