This gold colored pin, which is made to look like the California Sesquicentennial Stamp, was given as a bonus item to those who purchased stamps or first day of issue covers on Saturday, September 9, 2000. The stamp shows a depiction of the California Coastline, near Big Sur, with ice plant blooming above the ocean. The first day covers and sheets of the California Sesquicentennial stamp at a California Sesquicentennial event held at the Oakland Museum on Saturday, September 9, 2000. (At the event, when the issue of the ice plant was mentioned because it is not a native plant, a member of the audience jokingly suggested that the ice plant represents "immigrantion.")
