The Tribune photo, dated April 23, 1958, has the following caption on the back: "BIG BUILDING--A C-124 Globemaster, among the world's largest planes, finds ample space for overhaul inside the stadium-like building at the airport. The plane's tail fits under the cantilevered roof with two feet to spare. The building, costing $1,250,000, was dedicated yesterday. Massive doors nest at left each have own drive motors." The doors of the hangar run the length of the building, enough apparently to house two of the Globemaster planes at a time. This C-124 is operated by the Military Air Transport Service. A row of automobiles, parked along the near side of the building, is dwarfed by the size of the hangar. cf.2001.1.22
