The poster reads from top to bottom in purple text: "Bill Graham Presents In Dance - Concert / Jefferson Airplane / Quicksilver / Messenger Service / Dino Valenti, Fri, Sat, Sun / February 3, 4, 5 / Fillmore / Auditorium Adm, $3.00 / Sunday 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. - Benefit for Berkeley Strike Committee with Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Dino Valenti, Country Joe and the Fish, The Loading Zone, and other friends.". The bottom edge has a list of locations to by tickets in: San Francisco, Berkeley, San Mateo, San Rafael, Sausalito, and Menlo Park. This poster refers to what became known as the "Second Free Speech Movement Strike," after a sit-in a Navy recruiting table outside the student store on December 30, 1966 and the arrests of students for blocking access. "Just as in 1964 the Free Speech Movement was incited by the power structure's attempt to crack down on the Civil Rights Movement, the present conflict stems from the continuing attempt to crush the anti-war movement in this country. The right of dissent is imperative to the continuance of opposition to American suppression of self-determination in Vietnam, and it is a fundamental right upon which any democratic enterprise must be based." (Vietnam Day Committee statement in support of the strike). [LMC]
