Seven (7) butterfly in a Riker Mount which is a thin, glass-topped, cotton-filled exhibition case. These range in size from 3/4 x 5/8 to 3/4 x 1 1/8. Upper side red-brown to black, checkered with black and white spots. Brick-red patch on forewing [absent or nearly so in subspecies dialeucoides. Hindwing often has brick-red patch on hindwing. Underside gray with white spots; forewing with brick-red patch. They are arranged in two rows with a butterfly in the middle of the two rows at the bottom.  The top and third butterfly in the second row are folded. Verso: A dark pink stamp that has a box with the following information inside: "Collection of Clay Ward Inglewood-California NAME [line] on DATE [line] LOCATION [line]" In black handwritten ink on the NAME line: "Apodema Lemonias virgulti" In black handwritten ink on the DATE line: "October 6, 1936" In black handwritten ink on the LOCATION line:"Sunland, Calif.
