(Diane Curry, June 18, 1996) If this is the Dole Race, than this photo was taken before the actual race on August 16, 1927, possibly when the various planes were arriving at the Oakland Airport for the race. None of the planes took off at night on August 16, 1927 for the actual race. If this is for the Dole Race than the plane is either the Miss Doran, Miss Hollydale, Miss Peoria or Bluebird which were the only biplanes in the race. Most likely if this is the Dole Race than the plane is the Miss Doran but the nose of the plane appears longer than in photographs of the Miss Doran. Most likely this plane had nothing to do with the Dole Race and was landing at the airport for another reason probably after 1927.
