Typed piece of paper attached to the front of the photo, "Oakland Ninth Avenue Terminal, converted for specialized use by Encinal Terminals for the handling of steel cargoes. Dotted areas indicates approximate site of new facility. View is looking West toward the Golden Gate Bridge." Photo is an aerial view of a section of the waterfront showing various buildings and docks. In the foreground is the building mentioned in the caption above, with a ship docked beside the building and a dotted line drawn on the photo indicating how far the new dock will extend. Running down the right side of the photo is the freeway (Nimitz?). (D. Cooper, 5/1999) The Ninth Ave. Terminal was designed in the Beaux Arts style by Arthur Abel, Asst. Port Manager ca. 1930. It covered 4 acres and was 500 feet long. It was enlarged in 1951 with 500 more feet.
