Clipping on the back, May 29, 1936-- "Eleven of the remaining 25 living Civil War veterans attached to Eastbay G.A.R. posts gathered at the Oakland Veterans' Memorial Building for this Tribune picture. Seated, left to right, are: J.S. Dumser, Selden Sturges, Joseph H. Graham, Andrew Britton and J. William Wert. Standing are Joseph H. Dorety, Calvin H. Blanchard, Erie A. May, Julian P. Lippincott, F.R. Young and Joe Bowers. The sum total of their ages represnts a life span of 988 years. All live in the Eastbay. -Tribune photo." Photo is a group portrait of the men wearing three piece suits. They are all wearing what appear to be war medals pinned to their jackets. The man seated in the center is also holding a cane. GAR stands for "Grand Army of the Republic." (D. Cooper, 9/2002) J. S. Dumser was an optomitrist on 23rd Avenue in Oakland.
