This three piece dress was purchased by the donor at Joseph Magnin. It is the type of dress that a student would wear shopping in the afternoon, to a luncheon, on a date. (It's dressier than what one would have worn to classes. A: The bodice is striped black (with small bouquets of pink, white and red flowers with green leaves) and orchid color (with narrow bands of white, more pink, white and red flowers with green leaves); the long sleeves are full at the top. The bodice has a peplum and fastens down the front with 12, round, metallic appearing buttons, into self same loops. B: The skirt has a plain black waistband; the body of the skirt is made of machine quilted (white stitching) black twill fabric printed with bunches of red and pink flowers, purple buds and green leaves, alternating with decorative "squares" of pink, purple, green, red and white; a 7 3/4" flounce of the fabric in the bodice completes the garment at the hem. C: Belt in a corset style (would be worn over the bodice (so it would show) or could be worn with the skirt and a seperate blouse; The fabric is the same as that used for the body of the skirt, except it is not quilted; it fastens in the front with three sets of black metal eyelets and a black cord to lace through the eyelets. The style of this dress relates to Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche peasant styles popular a little earlier in the 1960s.
