According to the notation on the back of the photo the image is of "Castro St--toward Hayward c. 1911 Knox Hill on left." Single storey houses are on both sides of a graded dirt street that leads off inhto into the distance. There are several patches of unoccupied land, and the hills are bare. One landmark is the raised water tank in the back yard of the first house on the left.
