There are two notations on the back of the photo; the first is a clipping from the Tribune, dated Monday May 4, 1992 which reads " The Pacific Cordage Co, mill in Brooklyn, shown about 1870, helped make what later became East Oakland an industrial center. The Jingletown neighborhood was built to house mill workers." The other notation is handwrittwen and it reads: "Early industry / East Oakland... Pacific Jute mill in Clinton / Photo by Moses Chase / Located in Jingletown." The photo itself shows a cluster of the mill buildings on the banks of an estuary or stream.
