The notation onthe back fo this photo reads "12th St. looking toward Lake Merritt," but it does not describe whether the view is from the northwest or southeast. In any event, the camera is aimed down the length of a pair of streetcar tracks on 12th St. toward the Lake. The streetcar line is electrified, as evidenced by the overhead wires. Workmen are placing bricks in between the right of the two sets of tracks. Two wheelbarrows are on the far side of the right tracks. At center, there is a fenced in, one-storey house for sale, as noted on a sign erected by George W. Kelle[y or r]. At left center, on the street, a horse and carriage are moving away from the camera.
