A posed group portrait, perhaps of a family, on and near the steps of a residence. At the top, a man (minus a jacket) leans against a door jamb. On the top step, there is a woman wearing a dress with a bustle, and a hat; she is caught looking off to the right edge of the photo. On the second step from the the bottom there is a girl holding a doll, and a woman wearing a dark blouse and light colored skirt, and hat. At their left, seated on the side of the stairs, there is a woman clothed in black. On the bottom steop there is another girl, wearing eye glasses, also holding a doll. Finally on the ground at right, there is a boy wearing a derby and all black clothing. the dark clothing on the people suggests a recent death in the family.
