The notation on the back of the photo reads "Toxic vapors rise above IS 680 near Sunol." The tanker leading acid is c. 100 feet past the signs indicating that the the road leading to Fremont and San Jose (I-680) is to the left, and the one to the right (Hiway 84) leads to Calaveras Road and the Dumbarton Bridge is to the right. No person or other vehicles are in the picture.
