The notation on the back of the photo reads : "Hill being raised [sic] for freeway-Walnut Creek" At the center of the left lower corner of the photo the hill described on the back of the photo is being razed by earthmoving equipment to make way for what is now highway 680, heading toward the interchange with what is now Highway 24 at the top. Hiway 24 continues off to the right toward Oakland. 680 goes south past the interchange at top, headed south toward Danville Housing, schools, and industrial buildings are scattered throughout.
