An aerial view of the Walnut Creek bypass in its construction phase. Portions of the roadways, now interstate 680 and hiway 24, are now complete, but the four bridges/overpasses seen in the photo are in various stages of construction It is difficult to determine which of the roadways heads towards Danville, Concord, and Oakland because the photo is taken from an altitude so low as to leave out the surrounding identifying landmarks and cultural details. The Walnut Creek bypass is designed to divert commute traffic off downtwon streets to Interstate 680 and Hiway 24.
