The handwritten notation on the back of the photo reads "Grove-Shafter & Mac Arthur interchange under construction." Since most of the land around the interchange is covered with small houses, it is difficult to orient the exact location and the cardinal directions. But, since the MacArthur freeway precedes the Grove-Shafter freeway, it is clear that it is the MacArthur running from top to bottom. The Grove-Shafter's major markings at this point are on- and off-ramps to and from the MacArthur and the concrete columns running from side to side of the photo, giving the scene an almost bomb-devastated look.
