The clipping on the back of the photo reads "FREEWAY'S SWATH IN OAKLAND Wide swath of cleared ground through clustered building shows route of Grove-Shafter Freeway (above) with piers already crossing College Avenue and upper Broadway. The interchange with the MacArthur Freeway is under construction in left photo.[not shown JM 10/30/2000] Bay Area Transit tracks will share the right of way." Starting at the bottom of the photo the diagonal streets leading to the right lower corner are Shattuck, Telegraph, and Claremont Avenues. The exception is College Avenue, which joins with Broadway at upper right. 55th Street leads from bottom center toward right center. All the above named streets are identified by lettering on the photo.
