The Tribune photo, dated November 12,1989, has the following caption on the back: "The Paramount Theatre's closure has forced the Oakland Ballet to move its performances temporarily to Berkeley. After the earthquake, ticket sales to the Ballet's Christmas-season 'Nutcraker' all but stopped." The photo shows the theatre close up, and the view is from the ground looking up the long vertical sign which reads 'Paramount.' The marquee sign reads "PARAMOUNT THEATRE REOPENS NOV.17/CALL the BOX OFFICE 465-6400."
