The Tribune photo, dated December 1, 1990, has the following hand writtten caption on the back: "Carolling on the Merritt Queen." This is a view of the excursion boat underway moving across Lake Merritt in a southerly direction. The view is of the stern of the boat, whose paddlewheel is churning the water. In the distance, to the right of the boat, the Oakland Auditorium and a tall apartment building can be seen in silhouettte.
