The Tribune photo, dated August 23, 1982, has the following caption on the back: "COOLING OFF IN THE EASTBAY- Here are two ways to cool off during hot weather. One way is to relax under the trees, as James Parker, left, his wife, Becky, and son Ryan are doing [none of the above shown in this photo] off South Main Street in Walnut Creek. The other is to go sailboating on Lake Merritt in Oakland or any of the popular parks in the Eastbay." A handful of El Toro class and sloop sailboats, are tied up to a dock, prior to or after a sail on Lake Merritt. People are on the dock. The water is sufficiently calm to reflect the images of the sails on the water.
