The Tribune photo, dated November 25, 1985, has the following caption on the back: "DEDICATION- Rowers practicing on lake Merritt yesterday don't seem to mind that it is almost as wet in the boat as it is on the lake." At the left lower corner, a man is operating a outboard motor powered row boat. Just off its port bow, a two-oared scull is moving in the same direction, from left to right. A round pavilion with arches over its open spaces is shrouded in the mist at center rear. Ducks cover the lake.
