There are t wo Tribune captions on the back of the photo. The first, dated Friday June 1, 1990, reads "Lake Merritt's shoreline comes alive with food, music, games and big fun this weekend." The second, dated Sunday June 4, 1989, reads Lake Merritt was the scene of of the Bay Area's biggest block party yesterday." The Festival grounds occupy all but a 2/3rd portion of the photo, with the lake at upper and left taking up the remaining third. A row of vendor booths follows the shoreline at at center. A large tent is at center, portable rest rooms are at the bottom corner, and a big Lucky Stores truck is at upper right. Crowds of people are queued up at boots and the tent. [Note the discrepancy in the Tribune dates: Friday, June 1, 1990 and Sunday June 4, 1989. JM 12/28/2000]
