The Tribune photo, dated June 14, 1959, has the following caption on the back: "Streetcars and horses spashed mud along East 14th St. near Havenscourt Blvd approximately 47 years ago. Remember?" The pencil notation dates the photo to "about 1912." Telephone poles line both sides of E. 14th. Paralleling the dirt street is a line of eucalyptus trees at left. On the right side of the road, there is a fenced-in farm, with out-buildings, and a wind-driven water pump. Streetcars can be seen moving in both directions off in the distance, and a solitary horse and carriage is moving along the street closer to the camera.
