The location of the photo (taken from a slight elevation), per the handwritten notation on the back, is Telegraph Ave. and 24th St. to Sycamore. At lower center, an Oakland Railroad Co. horse-drawn streetcar is moving from right to left. On the far side of the tracks there is a median strip with horse drawn carriages and wagons on it. Fenced-in two-storey residences are on the far side of the median strip; the house at center has an extensive vegetable garden adjoining it. A further notation records that the streetcar line ran to the Unviersity of California campus.
