This is a photographic negative of an Oakland Oaks player coming home. The Oak is almost home and the catcher is awaiting the ball about eight feet from the plate. The umpire is looking in the direction of second base. The stands on the first base side is in the background. (D. Curry, 4/30/02) A PCL researcher believes this player is Rafael "Ray" Noble, who was a catcher for the Oaks in 1950, when there were few African American catchers.
