This poster (framed in a black metal frame, unglazed) is the image of the "Califonria Statehood Sesquicentennial Stamp, 1850-2000," issued September 9, 2000, Oakland, California 94612. The poster depicts the stamp, an image of the Ca lifornia Coastline, near Big Sur, with ice plant blooming above the ocean. This framed poster was presented to Dr. Dennis Power, Director, Oakland Museum of California, by Mr. Lawrence Barnes, Postmaster, Oakland, to celebrate the first day the stamps were sold, at a California Sesquicentennial event held at the Oakland Museum on Saturday, September 9, 2000. (At the event, when the issue of the ice plant was mentioned because it is not a native plant, a member of the audience jokingly suggested that the ice plant represents "immigrantion.")
