This quilt block was entered in the School Quilt Block Competition for students in grades K-12 in Alameda County; the deadline was March 17, 2000. This winning piece was exhibited in "Fabrications 2000" held in the Education Hall Galllery, April 8 - June 11, 2000. This block, entitled "Rain Forest Habitat Quilt Square" was the 1st prize winner for grades K-5, made by 2nd grade students at Jefferson School, San Leandro, under the direction of Mrs. Dale Lew, teacher. The block is pictorial, showing many animals romping through trees with five colorful butterflie in the top proper left portion of the block. It is finishe with a fine yellow border of P&B fabric. Those students who made the block are: Demareia Bradford, Alex Cheng, William Elendu, Savali Feleti, Mason Hartwell, Joseph Lau, Kim Lau, Winnie Li, Jenny Liang, Vanessa Lopez, Brett Malfatti, Kelsey Robinson, Nicole Santos, Jade Seto, Alex Turkin, Dionte Warren, Devareay Williams, Cary Zhen and Darya Zmachynski. It is interesting to note that another class taught by Mrs. Dale Lew also won a prize in the 1998 competition.
