City of Oakland

A view of the Oakland Museum garden, taken from ground level, looking across the lawn to the level of the California Ecology gallery. A narrative description of the scene is affixed to the photo; it reads "A campus atmosphere pervades the large terraced gardens of the new Oakland Museum, due to open September 20 [1969]. The area was once the site of a city park, run-down Victorian hosues built in the 1880's and '90's, some old stores and vacant lots. Eighteen of the park's trees were saved and made a part of the Museum garden. The view above [the description] is the first level looking into the Hall of California Ecology. The second level is the Cowell Hall of California History, and the third is the Gallery of California Art."
