A busy scene, taken from a slight elevation.. A road in the process of being paved runs from bottom left to upper center in a lazy "s" curve. The land is higher on the far side of the road and lower on the near side. The lower side is banked. At the right edge, below the road, there is a covered stable in which there is at least one horse. A sign on the side of one of the stable's buildings reads " American Express Com [pany]". On the same near side, but farther distant is a two storey building whose sign reads "Dry Cleaning" and other illegible signs. A railroad track is at the upper right corner of the photo. On the far side of the photo there is a two-storey building with a sign read "Mt. Oak $16.00 per cord." On the far side of that building there are several one-storey stores, one of which is the "Broadway Ornamental Iron Works." On the top of that store there is a billboard advertising "Golden Bridge Punch 10 c[ents]" Behind the stores there is an industrial district; one of the buildings has a tall cooling tower with the name "CALO' on it.
