A day time view of a street lined on both sides by commercial buidlings of varying heights, but none taller than 5 storeys. It may well be 14th St. in downtwon Oakland. Some automobiles are parked and others are in motion on this one-way street. The stores identifiable by signs on the left side of the street are Burt's, Gallen Kamp Shoes, Lewis Shoe Co., Dr. Beauchamp Dentist, Penney's, and Capitol ---. Those on the right side are Goodwin's, Zukor's, Leed's Shoes, and Grant's. Since this photo is filed in the Department of Electricity folder, the street lights are the point of interest, especially when compared to the same scene at night in 2000.2.49. The date, August 6, 1956, is stamped in on the back of the photo
