An image of a container ship captured between the prows of two freighters... presumably container ships as well. The container ship either is barely underway or being pushed by a tug, not shown. The containers on the ship are three tiers high above the side of the hull. The lines to the shore from both ships are clearly visible. On the ship at right, there is a painter's stage and two buckets of paint, but no painter. In the right background, a portion of Treasure Island and a cantilever section of the Bay Bridge are showing. A tyewritten description is affixed to back of the photo; it reads: "The Sea-Land Service containership San Francsico arrives on her regular run at the Port of Oakland, largest container shipping center on the Pacific Ocean. Last year [date not given] Oakland handled some 3.9 million tons of containerized cargo, second to New York amoung all world ports."
