This stud-style pin would have been worn by someone with a father, brother, husband or sister in the armed forces during World War II. The blue star in the center indicated how many members of one's family were serving in the armed forces. (In this case, one.) Should there be a gold star it would indicate that the loved one had died in the service. Flags of the same design were hung in windows at home.
