E & W, Earl & Wilson

This silk dress shirt was worn by Thomas F. Scally (b. 1879, d.1952, in Stockton) who was the owner of Scally Hardware in Stockton. As a young man, aged 21, he briefly played semi-professional baseball in Stockton, c. 1900. The shirt is made of silk which is striped: stripe of ivory colored fancy weave, tiny purple satin weave band, wider ivory colored satin weave, tiny purple satin weave, ivory colored ribbed weave, olive green satin weave, ivory colored ribbed weave, tiny purple satin weave, ivory colored satin weave, tiny purple satin weave. The shirt has self French cuffs, a white cotton collar band (marked size 15) and fastens down the front with five mother-of-pearl buttons. (The top hole would have been for a collar button.) Collar must be added. Label at nape reads: "E & W, Earl & Wilson." Printed on the front of the shirt: "E & W, Earl & Wilson, HYC 446/15 35."
