The Tribune photo, dated June 24, 1948, has the following caption on the back: "This air marker at Oakland Municipal Airport is the first established since the end of the war [World War II] in this area. Arrow within circle at left points to north. Figures are the latitude and longitude. Letters are 20 feet high in bright yellow." The marker described in the Tribune caption is at the left of the hangar roof in the photo, next to the Word "Oakland." The hangar has a row of small shed-like outbuildings on its landing strip side, and is surrounded on three sides by single enine, single wing aircraft, with the exception of one double engine plane [A Douglas DC3 JM 1/30/2001] at left. Automobiles are parked just off the highway on the far side of the hangar
