The Tribune photo, dated July 1, 1937, has the following caption on the back: "Graduation for the first class of Air Force mechanics was held yesterday at Aero Industries Technical Institute at Oakland Airport. Forty one of the 740 airmen massed for the ceremony received diplomas and transfers to advanced schools. Port commissioners and city officials of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro participated in the program. The mechanics are seated in chairs laid out in a giant square, with a backdrop of hangars, a warehouse, and barracks.
