Book sent by donor to her son Alvin while he was serving in Vietnam during the war. Mrs. Johnson was a Quaker and very anti-war. She shipped the book to Alvin inside a box of baked goods in order to hide it from the military in case they searched his mail. The book is an anti-war book containing photographs of atrocities being committed in Vietnam by American and Vietnamese soldiers and of the various political figures involved in the war. The text discusses the history of the Vietnamese conflict and why America is involved in the war. The author expresses in his introduction why he felt it necessary to write the book in the following way, "I am wholly certainï¾€..that if the people of the United States only knew the background of the war in Vietnam, and what is being done there in their name, that they would insist on the war at once being brought to an end."
