Cultural features, e.g.the area delimiting the partially submerged area for the proposed Alameda Airport, are shown. The Tribune photo, dated November 20, 1935, has the following caption on the back "These 1050 acres comprising Alameda Airport and surrounding tidelands will be developed into the United States Navy's New $ [obliterated] 0.000 airbase. Announcement of the selection of the Alameda Airport [obliterated] the fleet's most modern air station was made today [obliterated] ing a two-year survey. The airport's site adjoins the Army's Benton Field air base, now under construction, and is but a 'step' away from the Navy fleet anchorage in San Francisco Bay."
