The Tribune photo, dated February 20 1935, has the following caption on the back: "These [3] scenes [see also 2001.1.64 and.65] at the Alameda Airport, where construction work is being pushed to prepare for the arrival of the first of the fleet of seaplanes that will inuagurate California-Hawaii-China air service: dredging harbor to provide adeqaute depth......" In this scene, the dredge "Edward" is scooping up mud in its clam shell bucket, while a man on shore is recording data.
