A typewritten notation attached to the back of the photo reads "Exterior of [radio] receiving and transmitting station for the Pan American radio-navigation-communication system at Alameda airport." Two small buildings are in the foreground; the one at left has a wind speed measuring instrument on its roof. The Pan Am hangar is in between the two buildings in the background. Two other, smaller hangars are on the far side of the Pan Am hangar. Workmen are putting the finishing touches on the transmission poles. The Oakland Hills are off in the distance.
