"Iconic to Ironic: Fashioning California Identity," OMCA Great Hall, March 15 - September 21, 2003

The fabric is jacquard-woven cut velvet, to Marian's designs. Woven in Lyon, France, on jacquard looms which are over 100 years old. The coat was cut out of 2-70" x 45" panels--in such a way as to display the beauty of the fabric--and to use every scrap. As per designer, Marian Clayden 01/16/02. Coat is made from voided silk velvet, with wine color voids and pewter color pile. Fiber content is 60% rayon, 40% silk. Size is M/L. Pattern is of abstracted water lillies, leaves, and water droplets. Coat closes with three wine-colored soutache buttons in the center front, and features a loose shawl collar of same velvet and long sleeves. Designer's label at center back neck. Coat is designed to be worn with dress 2002.32.2.
