on face of invitation: "Respect, Unity, No Place For Hate" Unity Reception Thursday April 18, 2002 5:30 - 7:30 PM (plus additional text on inside and out). Envelope addressed in blue pen to: "Mark Medeiros Oakland Museum"
During the week of March12, 2002 several latino lawyers, activists, and organizers received anti-Latino hate mail containing a suspicious white powdery substance. Recipients included attorney leaders of the East Bay La Raza Lawyer's Association. Using the museum as a site for community activism, people from the community and staff members organized a community event - a Unity Reception. Over 500 people attended making the event a success. Upon a guest's arrival we encouraged them to write down their pledge to unity and write about their commitment on our banner- 2002.7.1.
The invitation is in three parts : a=invitation, b=insert, c=envelope
