The image shows John Carlos in the foreground wearing a dark t-shirt and hat. He is looking at his nails. Tommie Smith is behind him in a pea coat, white pants and dark sunglasses with a microphone being held in his face by a reporter. This picture was taken at a press conference upon their return from the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, where they won medals for track and field and raised their fists in protest of the treatment of minorities in America while accpeting them.
