Banana Republic Mill Valley, California (on label at center back neck)

Women's dress is light olive green color cotton, with a fine vertical stripe of ikat-, or resist-, dyed cotton threads, which are alternating natural color and mustard color. Dress has a scoop neck, short sleeves, and two patch pockets on each side of center front at the hip. Dress closes in front with seven large wooden buttons, and has a small four-inch slit at center back. Size M. Dress was purchased at Banana Republic on Grant Street in San Francisco, circa 1988. The store was decorated with a safari theme, and had various animal footprints pressed into the cement on the sidewalk out front. Dress was worn by Lorene Anderson, who wore it often while she was a graduate student in art (practice) at UC Berkeley. She also remembers wearing it to a family luncheon where it was a bit hit.
