"Iconic to Ironic: Fashioning California Identity," OMCA Great Hall, March 15 - September 21, 2003

Women's suit was designed by Gianni Versace from a fabric based on artwork by Andy Warhol, featuring the repeated image of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean in varying bright colors--yellow, red, pink, purple, green, blue, and black. A: Jacket is hip length, with vertical darts and false slash pockets. Center front, hem, and neck edges are bound with blue silk satin quilted edging, 5/8" wide, and the long sleeves have cuffs of the same blue quilted satin which are three inches wide. Jacket has five red and metallic gold color plastic buttons with red rhinestones at the center front, and one more on each sleeve. Buttonholes are bound in blue silk satin. Jacket is lined in red acetate plain weave. B: Skirt is short, with a proper right side zipper closure, and loops for hanging at each side seam. Skirt is lined in red acetate plain weave. Purse 2003.5.2 is designed to go with this suit.
