Large brimmed black felt hat with satin ribbon around the shallow crown with a bow knot on either side toward the front of the hat. The rim is trimmed with approximately a one inch band of black hairsehair. Inside is a small black elastic cord; this is worn under the hair, at the back of the head, to help hold the hat in place. (In the 1990s and 2000s young women dressing themselves in "vintage clothing" frequently would wear such bands under their chins; however, these bands were designed to be worn under the hair, at the back, and not meant to be too obvious.)

This is the type of hat a woman might wear to cocktails, perhaps to a more formal luncheon, or even dinner.
