From back of photo: rescue crew descending the Mocho shaft of the Hetch hetchy cave-in. 8/29/32 Twleve men, nine with backs to camera standing in front of large metal and wood structure. Tall horizontal beams with cross and angular support pieces extend way above the men's heads. On the left side of the structure is a box approximately three to four feet off the ground that has rivets on its four sides. It is framed within two horizontal beams and two vertical beams. Under the box are more support beams. Above the box is a cross beam and above that are two rods that apear to spin/rotate as part of the mechanics of the structure. To the right of the box are two very tall light colored support beams withfixtures attached to them. One on each side of the shaft. Behind the shaft are cross beams and angular support beams. On one dark support beam is a chain from the top to the top to approximately the top of the fence. The chain is in a knot at the bottom. They are also on the right side of the photo. Behind the support structures is a hillside with trees and grasses. At the bottom of the hill is a wpoden building with slanted roof and window. There is a fence in front of the building as well as an angular support. The men from left to right: Group one is a approximately four men. All are wearing hard hats. From the front of the hard hat to the rear and down their backs is a small hose that is attached to a small rectangular box attached to their waist. One is wearing overalls and the others are in jackets and dark pants. All appear to be wearing boots, some with pants tucked in some not. Two men are facing the camera. One of these men appears to be in a dark jacket and pants and could be a foreman or supervisor by his dress -- does not appear to be dirty. Next to this group is a man facing the shaft in a jacket and pants tucked into knee-high boots. He too has a hose on the top of his head. Tto his right are two more men. One is in overalls looking away from the shaft and the other is looking into the shaft. He is wearing work shirt, pants and boots. He too has a hose going from the top of his head down his back and into a small rectangular box at his waist. There is another group of men, all looking into the shaft area and standing on/over wo rails going into the shaft. They too wear jackets and pants with boots. One man in this last group has his left hand to his face and his right arm akimbo. On the right of the photo are two men: one in overalls with his hands behind he bib. He is wearing a hat with a light on it, facing the camera area, talking to the man next to him. The other man is in a light colored shirt, dark pants and dark shoes. His left arm is down at his side; he is hatless.
