Scarlett 94 under seat in black paint

Patricia Scarlett, known for her work in ceramics, also studies architecture and built her own home in the Woodside area. She furnished the home with furniture of her own design. This chair is one of several that she made and used in her daily life. Her former husband said that the striped pattern was inspired by a visit to Italy when she viewed the Cathedral in Siena, known for its bold striped exterior. The chair also has elements reminiscent of the designs of Charles Renne Macintosh - high, straight back and something of an Egyptian styling. While not an object to be praised for fine contuction, it is a visually complex piece. It also shows a visual link to some of her ceramics.
