Servicemen and civilians alike- a little groggy rom the sudden end of war- took the first tentative steps toward peace yesterday and found that even the good things had certain disadvantages. Quick to take advantage of the opportunity to "fill 'em up," motorists crowded the few open service stations, waiting in long lines like this one.

The photograph shows a long line of people waiting to fill up their gas tanks following the end of World War II.
